Buffalo Jump named Best First Novel!

Jun 05, 2009

Buffalo Jump was named Best First Novel of 2008 by the Crime Writers of Canada June 4 at the National Arts Centre in Otttawa.

The Arthur Ellis Award, an articulated wooden statuette of a man with a noose around his neck, comes with a cash award from one of my favourite haunts, Book City on Bloor West in Toronto, where it will be lovingly spent.

The competition was tight—as were many of the competitors—as the wine flowed freely. Happiest person in the room, next to me, was probably my agent, Helen Heller, as Best Novel went to another client of hers, Linwood Barclay, for Too Close to Home. I’ll be posting some photos and others news from the conference, so check back early next week (forgot my camera cable at home!)
